My
daughters, Stephanie and Teresa, and I have been raising Purebred and American
Nubian Dairy Goats since 1997. Our journey started at the Laramie County Fair
in Cheyenne, Wyoming when my daughter, Stephanie, won the “Dress a Goat/Obstacle
Course” contest. We went home that night and discussed the pros and cons of
owning/caring for goats. Within two weeks we were the proud owners of twin
doeling kids. We had no idea about the journey we were about to
take and the friends we were going to make!
Our first
two doelings, Rose and Mary, were not registered (we didn’t know anything about
the world of registered goats!). They were dam raised and as wild as they
come! The next year after several black eyes and stitches, my daughters joined
4-H and showed them at our county fair. Eventually we learned about the
American Dairy Goat Association and we were able to register Rose and Mary. All
of our dairy goats today are descendants of Mary. Rose is still producing milk
and kids at a farm in Colorado.
We attend several
ADGA sanctioned shows every year. In 2003 we started winning rosettes with our
dry stock. In 2006 we started winning rosettes with our milking does.
We even finished one of our goats in 2006, GCH Irish Belles Lady Abbey. We
started Linear Appraisals in 2004 with ADGA and we started testing our milk
through DHIA in 2004 and have obtained milking stars on several of our
does. In 2007 we achieved Superior Genetics certificates on 2 of our does! In 2008 we achieved Superior Genetics on another doe!
In 2003 we
purchased our first Boer doe and her doeling kid. We have successfully been
using our Boer stock to supplement our sales and income. These hardy goats
require less attention and have paid for a lot of hay. We have continually sold
our Boer kid stock before they are born. We are now retaining only two
percentage adult does and one fullblood buck in our Boer
herd.
My daughters and I work outside of the
home full time so we have busy schedules. We encourage visitors to our humble
home. I especially like to have children visit our goats!
We also
sell dairy and meat breeding stock. Please take a look at our "Ladies and
Sires”.
